Patch, a social impact startup dedicated to revitalizing UK town centers, marked the grand opening of its latest hub in Bournemouth’s iconic Bobby’s building on Tuesday, November 12. The event, co-hosted with local creatives from Pier Journal, brought together over 300 of Bournemouth’s leading entrepreneurs, cultural figures, and innovators to celebrate and connect.
The space, tailored to freelancers, startups, and scale-ups, offers design-focused coworking studios and private offices. Equipped with cutting-edge facilities, it aims to enhance productivity and collaboration. Additionally, the site features versatile public meeting and event spaces, making it ideal for tech summits, book festivals, yoga classes, and podcast recordings.
A Celebration of Community and Creativity
The launch event featured welcome speeches from Freddie Fforde, Founder and CEO of Patch, Paloma Strelitz, Creative Director & Head of Product at Patch, Sammy Murphy, Founder of Pier Journal, and Karley Woodford, Site Director at Patch Bournemouth.
“As we open our doors, our ambition for Patch is to become the leading space for startups and small businesses to thrive,” said Paloma. “Already, we’re seeing a vibrant mix of entrepreneurs, creatives, and local talent coming together to build something exceptional. We’re just getting started and look forward to seeing how this community will drive innovation and collaboration across the South Coast.”
The workspace design marries the building’s historical features—such as wooden floors, ornate pressed metal ceilings, and large arched windows—with modern conveniences, including superfast Wi-Fi, ergonomic chairs, standing desks, private focus booths, and complimentary bean-to-cup coffee.
Building a Creative Hub in Bournemouth
Sammy Murphy of Pier Journal expressed excitement about the collaboration: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Patch on the launch of their new coworking space in Bobby’s. This partnership is another step toward transforming Bournemouth into a creative hub full of opportunity.
“We’re also proud to launch the autumn issue of Pier Journal here tonight, featuring a cover designed by Kathryn Harman, the winner of our local design competition.”
A Space for Everyone
As a certified B Corporation, Patch prioritizes inclusivity and sustainability. With flexibility at its core, the space supports remote workers, working parents, and individuals with caregiving responsibilities. Currently, 60% of its members are parents, and 80% are under the age of 44.
“We already have over 100 members here,” said Karley Woodford. “The atmosphere is lively and welcoming. We invite anyone to come in, take a look around, and experience the space. Whether you’re looking for a private office, a membership, or just want to drop by, you’ll find a friendly community.”
The 3,800 sq. ft. space includes event areas, meeting rooms, a podcast studio, and a wellness studio—all designed to foster creativity and connection.
Members Reflect on the Patch Experience
Nick Whitnell, Founder of Daring Works, shared his enthusiasm: “As a ‘B Leader,’ being part of a B Corp coworking space aligns with my values. The community here is inspiring, and the building itself is full of character. It’s exactly how work should be—fun and motivating. Plus, the coffee is fantastic!”
Ali Puglianini, Founder of Lucky Penny, echoed these sentiments: “Patch feels like a natural fit for us. Building community is central to everything we do, and this vibrant space has taken collaboration and connection to a whole new level.”
Justine Wyness, an eCommerce Consultant, added: “I came for the location and the building’s charm but stayed for the camaraderie. Working from home made me forget how much I missed these connections. The light streaming through those windows, even on a dull day, is stunning.”
Looking Ahead
Patch is already planning a dynamic lineup of events in collaboration with cultural groups and business organizations. “Our goal is for Patch to be the go-to place for inspiration and enjoyment,” said Karley.
