Allison Homes has completed the acquisition of a 26-acre site in South Bristol with outline planning consent for around 500 new homes, in a move that underscores the company’s intent to scale in one of the UK’s most economically dynamic city-regions.
This is the company’s largest acquisition to date in the South West – part of a strategic, private equity-backed plan to double in scale, and strengthen local partnerships. It marks a strategic expansion into Bristol’s growth corridors, particularly around the Long Ashton and Ashton Gate area. The site, worth an estimated £165m, will deliver a mix of private and affordable homes, alongside new green space and infrastructure supporting sustainable travel.
The acquisition supports the company’s five-year growth strategy to double output across its regions. Its new West of England office is now operational, and the company is actively seeking additional land opportunities, particularly for design-led and partnership housing delivery.
Longmoor is expected to serve as a strategic anchor for Allison Homes in the South West, delivering meaningful economic and social value with a Home Builders Federation estimated 1,772 jobs supported, 21 new apprentices or trainees, nearly £23 million toward affordable housing, £3.2 million in infrastructure contributions, £459,000 in local sport and leisure spend. The scheme sits within a key regeneration zone that includes the Ashton Gate Sporting Quarter and the wider South Bristol development agenda, with investment support from both Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority (WECA).
Glyn Mabey, Managing Director – South West, said: “By securing this land we can accelerate delivery in places that need it most. Longmoor allows us to bring forward much-needed new homes at scale, while embedding quality, design integrity and environmental responsibility from day one and doing so through collaboration with local partners and communities.
“It reflects our core belief that private sector development should match public sector ambitions. This is what delivering outcomes looks like. We are meeting housing need, creating jobs, supporting city-led regeneration.”
Next steps for the site include preparing a Reserved Matters planning application to be submitted later this year. Design development is now under way, with a focus on delivery-ready proposals that integrate energy efficiency, walkability, and landscape-led layouts.
Allison Homes will begin a programme of local engagement following the summer holidays, including in-person events and online materials to support early stakeholder input.
“We are backing Bristol with action,” Glyn added. “Longmoor is our statement of intent: demonstrating our commitment to quality, consistency, and outcome-driven growth all delivered through a blend of private housing and partnership-led affordable delivery.”
