To mark Breast Cancer Awareness month this October, Paradise Tattoo Studio on 5 Bath Street, Cheltenham, is gearing up to host its annual charity Flash Day on Saturday 4th October, raising funds for the Mastectomy Tattooing Alliance (MTA).
Last year, the studio raised £2,215 for the charity, with queues stretching out the door, a figure they hope to surpass this year. This year, doors open at 10am, with walk in appointments only until approximately 7pm.
Founded in 2021 by award-winning specialist tattoo artist Tanya Buxton, the MTA is a UK charity dedicated to raising awareness and improving access to mastectomy and 3D areola-nipple tattoos for those affected by breast cancer, BRCA, and gender-affirming surgeries. The charity also runs a Gift Voucher Scheme to provide financial support for those needing help with the cost of their tattoos.
The MTA’s Tattoo Flash Day Fundraiser is its biggest annual campaign, with 46 studios nationwide helping raise over £21,000 in 2024 alone. With Breast Cancer Now reporting around 55,000 women and 400 men diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK, these funds help provide vital financial aid through the MTA Tattoo Gift
Voucher Scheme, ensuring more people can access the restorative tattoos they need to feel whole again.
Paradise’s talented artists – Tanya Buxton, Jen Sterry, Fiona Hambleton, and Ceara Bryant – will offer a curated selection of flash tattoo designs on the day, priced from £50 to £150, with 100% of profits donated to the MTA. Designs will be previewed on Paradise’s social media ahead of the event.
Attendees can enjoy drinks, nibbles, and games, including Paradise’s famous Truth or Dare wheel – a £5-per-spin, Wheel-of-Fortune-style game with chances to win Paradise gift vouchers, merchandise, and prizes donated by local businesses. There’s also the risk of landing on a “boobie prize” (no pun intended) or being challenged to complete a dare. This is Paradise’s only charity flash day for the year, making it a special opportunity for both tattoo enthusiasts and the local community to come together in support of a meaningful cause.
Says Tanya Buxton, Founder of Paradise Tattoo Studio: “At Paradise, we wanted to show our support for the Mastectomy Tattooing Alliance by hosting a charity Flash Day during Breast Cancer Awareness month. It’s a fun way to raise vital funds while also bringing the tattoo community together for a cause that means so much to me personally.
“It’s so important that the breast cancer, BRCA, and transgender/non-binary communities know what options are available as part of their healing journey – these tattoos are a key part of their recovery. Seeing firsthand the life-changing impact of the work we do at Paradise, it was crucial for us as a studio to support a charity like the Mastectomy Tattooing Alliance, which champions restorative tattooing and makes it more widely accessible. It’s also wonderful that the tattoo industry is being embraced for its truly artistic quality and ability to help heal people in so many ways. There are some incredible artists out there doing amazing work, and for many patients, just knowing this support exists can make a real difference, helping them feel empowered and supported throughout their recovery.”
Since opening in 2021, Paradise has helped hundreds of clients recover and regain confidence after mastectomy, surgery, or injury, offering services including areola tattooing, scar camouflage, mastectomy tattoos, gender-affirming tattoos, and scar cover-up work. The studio’s ethos is centred on helping people feel empowered, uplifted, and confident through tattooing.
