Discover expert advice all under one roof at ‘Build It Live’ South West

On the weekend of 13 and 14 September 2025, Build It Live will return to Westpoint Exeter to give visitors all the inspiration they need to take on a self build, home extension or renovation project.

You can even see what land is available around the country with a visit to the Land Zone and talk to local and national suppliers including architects and companies offering kitchens, oak framed homes, heating solutions, glazing options, eco products for a healthy home and so much more.

Meet Build It’s experts for one-on-one free impartial advice, attend informative live talks, seminars and specialist clinics and hear from real self builders about their own experiences.

Home improvements in 2025 are all about creating personal, energy-efficient, and functional spaces, with a focus on sustainability and smart technology integration. Homeowners are also increasingly interested in multi-functional rooms and clever storage solutions to maximize space and suppliers at Build It Live can help with advice on large scale extensions and home improvements.

Now is a good time to learn about self build projects, as many house developers are offering self build plots in their developments.   The Right to Build initiative, is also useful for those seeking land to build their own home.  Also known as the Self-build and Custom Housebuilding legislation, this is a UK government initiative aimed at increasing the availability of land for self and custom housebuilding. It requires local authorities to maintain registers of individuals seeking to self-build and then to notify them when serviced plots become available.  At Build It Live, visitors can access information about self-build plots through PlotBrowser.com, a website that provides listings of self-build plots, conversion options, and home renovation opportunities throughout the UK.

Build It Live shows are organised by the UK’s number one Self Build Magazine, Build It. (see the latest ABC audit circulation figures).

The next ‘Build It Live’ show takes place at Westpoint in Exeter on the weekend of 13 and 14 September 2025.

From new and cutting-edge to classic and traditional, there’s plenty at the show to suit your style (and your budget) and the free advice clinics are a great place to start!

Below are the Clinics available:

EXTENSIONS CLINIC: If you love your current home, but want to add more space, then an extension might be the right route for you. When executed properly, extensions can add thousands to your property’s worth. However, sometimes obtaining planning permission for your extension can be tricky. Visit the Extensions Clinic at the show for professional one to one advice!

HEATING ADVICE CLINIC: Visit the Heating Advice Clinic to help you decide on the best heat source for your home.  Find out if heat pumps are right for your home or if an alternative would meet your requirements better.

BUILD COST CLINIC: Discuss your project with one of our Estimators to better understand how much it will cost to build the home of your dreams.

BASEMENT ADVICE CLINIC: Building a basement is a cost-effective way to create high quality space … and to beat the planners.  In Europe they are common, but the UK has overlooked this opportunity for too long. Visit the Basement Advice Clinic to discover how it could give you the extra space you need.

Additional to the Clinics, there’s a whole host if things to give you inspiration:

STRIKING GLAZING OPTIONS: Meet a host of glazing manufacturers demonstrating a huge range of bifold & sliding doors, windows & rooflights. From kitchen extension to a whole new build, create a wonderfully bright and airy home!

LAND ZONE: Make sure you visit the Land Zone, brought to you by PlotBrowser – the online portal dedicated to real building plots. Here, you’ll be able to discover the various routes to finding the right plot. Gain valuable tips for finding land and browse real, available plots currently on the mark.

BUILD SYSTEM OPTIONS: Meet exhibitors who specialise in all the major construction methods, making it easier to choose the best approach for your self-build project.

THE SUSTAINABLE BUILDING PRODUCTS PAVILION: Whether building from scratch or renovating an old house, if you want a truly sustainable, healthy home, then every aspect of your project needs to be considered in detail – from low-energy design strategies through to the products and finishes that go into both the structural fabric and the internal fit-out.

DESIGN KNOW-HOW:  Meet a wide range of Architects and Designers offering free advice & inspiration to guide you to the home of your dreams.

SELF-BUILDERS’ OWN STORIES LIVE: Gain inspiration and confidence from Build It readers who have realised their self-build dreams. Hear their stories in the live theatre on the show floors.
