270 Climbing Park in Gloucestershire will once again open its doors to climbers and the local community on Christmas Day, with the aim of raising more vital funds for Climbers Against Cancer (CAC).
For this special Christmas Day opening between 9am and 2pm, everyone, including members, will be charged the standard entry fee, with all entry costs donated directly to CAC. The staff at 270 – who are the driving force behind the event – will all be volunteering and giving their time for free.
Last year, the Christmas Day opening raised over £2,200 for Climbers Against Cancer, and the centre is hoping to make a similar impact again this year.
The event attracts a wide range of visitors each year. Some attend to climb and burn off energy before Christmas dinner; others are looking for something different to do on Christmas Day. It also offers a welcoming space for those who do not celebrate Christmas or who may not have anyone else to spend the day with.
Experienced climbers are able to enjoy roped climbing, while others may prefer bouldering or simply spending time in the centre at their own pace. There is no pressure to climb, and many visitors choose to simply relax with a drink in the centre’s café bar.
No booking is required unless visitors are inexperienced climbers, where spaces are limited.
David Stevens, Director of 270 Climbing Park, said: “Christmas Day at 270 Climbing Park has become a meaningful date in our calendar, and it is solely driven by the passion and commitment of our staff who volunteer their time to make it happen. Local people attend, but we also see visitors from further afield, including as far as Sheffield, which shows how valued the event has become. We’re proud to be raising funds for Climbers Against Cancer through this initiative.”
