Residents, businesses and other organisations are invited to have their say on what energy projects they think will help the region reach net zero.
The Call for Evidence is part of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Area Energy Plan aimed at achieving better energy security, green prosperity and lowering carbon emissions.
The plan is being developed with residents and businesses to look at how energy can be used, supplied and managed to best meet current and future needs.
When finalised, the plan will identify and recommend changes needed to heat and power buildings as well as new infrastructure for future energy and transport demands – playing a major role in helping the region become carbon neutral.
From now until November 30, 2023, residents, researchers, interested groups, businesses and other organisations can contribute to the plan’s development by responding to the Call for Evidence.
Cornwall Council is particularly interested in receiving:
- Plans, strategies, studies or research on the consumption or production of energy in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
- Energy-related projects, investments or other initiatives potentially addressing the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the region.
- Factors that could potentially constrain or help initiatives aimed at reducing energy-related greenhouse gas emissions.
- Any other evidence that stakeholders want to highlight for consideration during the development of the Local Area Energy Plan
Cllr Martyn Alvey, Cornwall’s cabinet member for environment and climate change, said:
“We’ve set a challenging ambition of hitting net zero for Cornwall and this Local Area Energy Plan is the single biggest component of us being able to achieve that.
“We’re keen to hear from anyone who can show what plans, evidence and data related to energy they have and think we should consider as part of the Local Area Energy Plan so we can add that into its development.”
