A new website bringing together a host of information about career and training opportunities in Cornwall has been launched for job hunters, students and residents thinking of changing careers.

Cornwall Opportunities features a searchable database of hundreds of jobs, apprenticeships, courses and more across a wide range of industries, all in one place.

Developed by Cornwall Council following a £257,000 grant from the Government’s G7 Legacy Fund, the Portal aims to boost the economy and make it easier for residents to access information about opportunities available.

The Portal is packed full of useful information and tools for young people, adults, employers, teachers, parents and local learning providers. It showcases vocational career pathways as well as raising awareness of local industries and highlighting in-demand skills and occupations, now and in the future.

The Portal has plenty of information to signpost people to local support, help to inspire and inform the workforce of tomorrow and next generation of entrepreneurs.

Whatever your age, it offers help to adults looking to gain employment, upskill or explore new careers. For young people considering different pathways or looking to get their first step on the career ladder, there is advice about where to study, preparing for interviews, as well as an inspiring careers directory and search tools for jobs and apprenticeships.

Cornwall Opportunities includes a dedicated Youth Hub, an Employer Hub and a Hub for people with special educational needs, all packed with information and support.

The project supports delivery of two of Cornwall Council’s key priority outcomes. The first is to make Cornwall a brilliant place to be a child and grow up. Secondly, to create a thriving, sustainable Cornwall.

Cornwall Councillor, Barbara Ellenbroek, portfolio holder for children and families, said:

“Cornwall Opportunities is a fantastic new resource for our residents. Whether you are considering education and training options to support your future career plans. In need of some career inspiration and advice, looking for local opportunities to develop yourself and progress your career, or taking the first steps back into work and looking for work, this new portal brings everything together for the first time in Cornwall.”

The Portal also has resources for local careers and employability organisations supporting individuals into work and training who can access the portal with their clients.

And there is a range of information for employers around recruitment and workforce skills development, including free toolkits and signposting to other support. Local businesses can also upload their job and apprenticeship vacancies.

Cornwall Councillor Louis Gardner, portfolio holder for economy, said:

“Cornwall Opportunities showcases the support that’s available for individuals and employers at a time when the nature of skills and employment is constantly changing. Whether that’s the gig economy, flexible working, net zero, automation, artificial intelligence or opportunities in our growth and emerging industries.

“Importantly, this is a resource for people of all ages living in Cornwall and Scilly to provide a local perspective on opportunities, and it will support our local employers in raising the profile of their industries, recruit to their future needs and upskill their workforce.”
