Tailoring HR Systems to Fit Your Unique Business Needs

Businesses come in an increasingly diverse array of shapes and sizes. When it comes to Human Resources, it makes sense to look for a solution that’s tailored to your particular needs. This applies, in particular to the systems and technologies being used.

Importance of customisation

Customisation offers a number of benefits that are difficult to overlook. Employees might be better engaged by an interface that’s specifically designed for the intricacies of their jobs. By eliminating facets of the system that aren’t required by your workflow, you can also make it much more efficient.

How to customise?

When it comes to HR software systems, there are several different kinds of customisation. Each is worth addressing in turn.

User Interface (UI)

Tailoring the dashboard can make for a more compelling user experience. This might mean superficial changes, like introducing company branding, or it might mean functional changes, like the removal of entire sections of the UI.

Some workers might benefit from an entirely different kind of user interface. For example, if you’re running a business whose workers are mostly operating remotely using tablet computers, then you might tailor the interface to suit that particular circumstance.

Over time, you might get a better idea of which features are being used, and which are not. Giving employees the opportunity to suggest changes, and regularly reviewing and incorporating that feedback, will result in a UI that’s more productive and less stressful to use.

Workflow Automation

The workflow can be tailored to facilitate onboarding, recruitment, and performance management. Since these things may be very different, depending on the kind of work being performed, it is worth tweaking the HR system accordingly. For example, the onboarding process for a quarry might be different to the onboarding process in an IT firm.

Analytics

Not all metrics are going to be relevant to every business. There may be specific things that you are very interested in, which might be introduced into reports, and the expense of things that you are not interested in. For example, if a staff meeting reveals that there’s a problem with persistent lateness at a given office, then you might track timekeeping there more stringently.

Integration

Different businesses might have different software and hardware already in place. Customisation might allow your HR system to integrate seamlessly with your existing tools. These tools might include payroll software, CRM, and project management.

Ideally, your HR system software should be consistent with other software that your staff are regularly using. Hotkeys and shortcuts might be customised so that they align in this way. Individual members of staff might even have their own preferences. Allowing them to customise the system to fit their needs will often result in greater productivity and efficiency.
