People living with damp and mould in their homes will have access to a new suite of online advice from housing and homelessness charity Shelter, funded by specialist cleaning company HG.
In a campaign called ‘Together for safer and healthier homes’, HG, the leading expert in effective cleaning products, raised £135,000 from sales of its mould remover products last winter, which has funded the development of the digital content to ensure those living in unsafe conditions have a place to turn for trusted, expert advice on damp and mould.
The new suite of advice can be navigated more easily and includes support for:
-
Identifying damp and mould problems
-
Reducing or preventing mould
-
Tackling condensation
-
Distinguishing between tenants’ and landlords’ responsibilities
-
Reporting concerns to landlords
-
What to do if a landlord doesn’t take appropriate action
Between 2022 and 2023, one million households in England were living in a home with damp. Despite it being a year-round issue, damp and mould accelerates in the winter months. That’s why Shelter is launching this new content to empower thousands more council and housing association tenants to deal with unfit or dangerous conditions in their homes.
HG and Shelter believe too many people are living in unsafe conditions that risk their health and want to ensure that simple, effective advice is available to anyone who may be struggling to access guidance.
Talking about this collaboration, Gina Slade, UK Country Manager at HG, said:
“With so many households suffering from mould and the health dangers that creates, we wanted to collaborate with a charity at the heart of the issue to really make a difference and support those in need of our advice and solutions.
“We have been creating effective cleaning solutions and sharing our knowledge and advice on the treatment and prevention of mould for over 50 years so we are pleased we could support Shelter and its community to help even more people with this escalating problem.
“Thanks to our partners Amazon, B&Q and Wickes for supporting our mission and we look forward to seeing how many people Shelter’s new online suite of advice will help this winter and beyond.”
Andy Harris, Director of Income Generation at Shelter, said: “Damp and mould are all too common in homes across the country, and they are a massive source of worry for a lot of people. That’s why we are pleased to partner with HG to develop a dedicated interactive digital tool to offer advice to even more people, helping them raise concerns about damp and mould and access support.”
