New IBS book – Bristol based nutritionist creates guide to better digestion

Bristol based nutritional therapist and IBS specialist Anna Mapson has written a new book, ‘Inside Knowledge for people with IBS and SIBO’, aimed at people living with ongoing digestive symptoms who feel overwhelmed by conflicting diet advice and online ‘gut hacks’.

Drawing on 10 years of clinical experience, the book explains the underlying causes of IBS symptoms such as bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, gas, and abdominal pain, before guiding readers through practical, sustainable ways to manage them. Anna says, “I wanted to provide a way for people to manage IBS at h0me, because a lot of people feel lost and confused about what to eat, and how to improve their digestion.”

The book is structured in three parts. It first explains digestive conditions including IBS and SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), alongside causes of constipation or diarrhoea. It then introduces Anna’s Gut Reset Cogs model, showing how diet, lifestyle, and the gut–brain connection work together. The final section focuses on symptom management, supplements, hormones, flare-ups, and long-term life with IBS.

Unlike many gut health books, it avoids extreme diets which can cause fear around food. The book focuses instead on better understanding digestion, expanding your diet, and practical changes that can fit in everyday life.

Each chapter starts and finishes with a client story, giving people with IBS real life examples of how digestion can improve. “It can feel quite lonely when you’re embarrassed to talk to anyone about your gut health so I wanted to explain what can happen and how people feel when they’ve had IBS for years” said Anna. One review of the book, which can be found on Amazon, said “the best part were the anecdotes throughout as they made me feel like I’m not alone in this struggle.”

Anna’s work centres on reducing symptoms without unnecessary restriction or fear around food, “It is really important for me to focus on expanding people’s diets and getting back to a broader intake of food. Many people with IBS or other gut health conditions are eating a very restricted diet which can lead to further issues over time.”

Anna Mapson lives in Fishponds in Bristol, and specialises in IBS and functional digestive disorders. She works with clients online across the world in her business Goodness Me Nutrition. She also hosts a weekly IBS podcast focused on evidence-based, realistic gut health advice which is called Inside Knowledge for people with IBS. Inside Knowledge for people with IBS and SIBO is her first book.
