CREATIVE agency Milk & Tweed has held a month of office games to raise money for charity to honour the memory of founder Jake Jeffries’ sister Laura.
Each week for a month staff took part in a different game, with the winner choosing a charity close to their heart to receive a £200 donation from the Chippenham and Brighton agency. In addition the agency, which specialises in websites, branding and digital marketing, donated £500 to the William Budd ward at Bath Royal United Hospital and £400 to Dorothy House in recognition of the care they gave Laura, who died six years ago aged just 41 from cancer.
“To be honest her birthday month is always a tough month, and when I started this six years ago it was because I wanted to do something positive to focus on the good things we remember about her,” said Jake.
“We came up with the idea of the games because it brings all the staff together, so it’s great for the culture of the business, but also it gives everyone a chance to nominate a charity of their choice to benefit as well.
“Laura was an incredible woman, sister, mother, auntie and daughter and is missed by her family and friends every day. I wanted to donate some money for the ward where Laura was treated because the care, love and attention they provide not only for the patients, but their family members, really is astonishing – and something that will never be forgotten.”
The games were a mix of office and online, so staff working remotely could join in. The first game involved staff nominating a distance from which they could throw a bean bag through a narrow hole, which was won by Head of Design Jamie Lawton, who nominated the British Heart Foundation.
Designer Alice Oliver-Goulding won a game of Spoof and nominated the Sue Ryder Hospice in memory of her grandmother.
A game of Scattergories ended in triumph for designer Hope Manning, who chose Coppeshell Animal Rescue and Marketing Manager Page Daley won a game of bingo and nominated the charity Alcohol Change.
“It was important that the staff were able to choose causes that meant something to them and we learned about some charities we hadn’t heard of before, as well as their reasons for supporting them so it brought us all a bit closer,” said Jake.
“We tagged the charities in our social media posts as well. I love doing this kind of thing because it is fun and enjoyable and it fits in with our company values.
“We have a reputation for having a lively culture, as well as one for excellent work, so this really chimes with that. We are quite a young team and this shows that younger people are really aware of what’s going on, and really care about their community.”
